Impressive mushroom

Trooping Funnel (Infundibulicybe geotropa var. maxima).
Found on 01.11. 2020

A very impressive mushroom in terms of size (cap diameter up to 30 cm). Grows in deciduous and coniferous forests – likes to grow as a fairy ring. It is edible, but I have never tried it myself.

Habitat: Mixed woodland at a renaturalised gravel pit, northern Schleswig-Holstein.

ATTENTION: This mushroom is reserved for experienced mushroom pickers only, as funnel mushrooms can often only be precisely identified microscopically and there are also deadly poisonous species among them!

Other possible confusions could be with the monk’s head (Infundibulicybe geotropa syn. clitocybe geotropa). Here is a simple test. Run your hand over the hat – the monk’s head has a bulge upwards in the middle. In terms of taste, both are equal.
